Next Tuesday marks the 12th annual Laps for Landon fundraiser for cystic fibrosis awareness on the Emporia State Campus.
Cystic fibrosis is a genetic disease that attacks both the respiratory and digestive systems by producing thickened mucus, digestive fluids, and sweat that can cause complications of the lungs and gastrointestinal tract.
12-year-old Landon Doty, whom the event is named for, was diagnosed with cystic fibrosis as a child, and the annual event garners huge support, says ESU assistant professor Dr. Jennifer Thomas.
The event will be at ESU’s Welch Stadium where guests can walk the “laps” around the track. Laps for Landon is free for public participation, but there will be a silent auction, raffle table, plinko board and t-shirts for sale. The funds raised will go towards supporting those affected with the disease.
