Demand remains high for the Salvation Army’s food pantry, with supplies still low.
Capt. Deb Thompson tells KVOE News she’s grateful for the community support, with donations increasing after the Salvation Army said a lot of shelves were bare in late January. Thompson thanked First Church of the Nazarene, Sacred Heart Church and Emporia Christian School for food donations and Dillons for a $1,000 grant to keep the shelves at least somewhat stocked. However, she says those supplies don’t last long, largely due to traffic. The food pantry served over 200 people in 115 households last month.
With that in mind, Thompson also updated a new venture called “Round Up for the Hungry” to help generate the funds to get more supplies on hand. Round Up for the Hungry started almost a month ago and continues to May 3. The food pantry still needs food donations, including meat, fruits and vegetables, breakfast food, spaghetti and boxed meals.
