Details are developing after one person had to be pulled from a drainage ditch near Emporia on Saturday night.
Lyon County deputies arrived at Road 170 just west of Road T-5 on Saturday evening and tried unsuccessfully to get the man out of the ditch before calling Emporia Fire to the scene. Firefighters used a stepladder to reach the person before taking him to Newman Regional Health for observation and possible treatment.
Exactly how the patient got into the ditch, which was at least partially full of water after rainfall earlier in the evening, remains unclear at this time. Deputies say the patient may have been in the water for close to two hours. There is currently no sign of a traffic crash because a car at the incident site was on Road 170 just west of a bridge.
The patient’s name has not been released. We’ll have further developments as the investigation continues on KVOE and KVOE.com.
