The Emporia High baseball team opened their season with two wins over Highland Park Thursday, winning 21-0 and 27-0.
In game 1 the Spartans scored 8 runs in the 1st innning and scored 13 runs in the 2nd. Kayden Williams was 3 for 3 with 4 RBI. Hayden Baumwart, Riley Wagner and Tevin Ginter were 2 for 2 with 2 RBI each. Hayden Baumwart, Riley Wagner and Ethan Garate combined to throw a no-hitter.
In the 2nd game Emporia High scored 22 runs in the 1st inning and added 5 runs in the 2nd inning. Hayden Baumwart drove in 5 runs. Kayden Williams was 2 for 3 with 3 RBI. Beau Baumgardner drove in 4 runs and Riley Wagner finished with 3 RBI. Cade Kohlmeier and Skyler Douglas combined on a no-hitter.
Coach Anthony Markowitz said they kept their focus.
Senior Hayden Baumwart said they played both games with energy.
The Spartans play at Topeka Seaman Tuesday.
