Area firefighters were busy with a stubborn grass fire that developed about six miles northeast of Emporia on Tuesday night.
Local firefighters responded to the 2400 block of Burlingame Road twice in 30 minutes for a controlled burn that broke containment. The cause has not been listed.
Early estimates had about 20 acres burned as a result of that fire.
