Westar Energy is alerting customers about a fraudulent check scheme, although the activity does not appear to be taking place locally.
The utility says several checks in Pennsylvania and Ohio have a false Westar logo. The checks claim to come from Continental Stock Transfer and Trust Company and are payable to JP Morgan Chase Bank in Syracuse, N.Y.
