Harmonious voices filled the sanctuary at First United Methodist Church Sunday afternoon in support of Habitat for Humanity.
The 15th annual “A Lord-Built House” concert was held and featured the Emporia Chorale, Emporia State University’s A Capella Choir and the Emporia High School Chorale. The annual concert is the major fundraiser for Emporia’s Habitat for Humanity and Habitat President Ryan Janzen says it fits perfectly into their mission of promoting togetherness in the community.
Along with the musical performances, those in attendance also had the opportunity to hear from a Habitat homeowner. Shara Jacobs shared her story and the impact a Habitat-built home had on her family.
All individuals who receive a home from Habitat for Humanity play a major role in the home’s construction, which Jacobs says has allowed her to know the ins and outs of her house.
She adds, her family’s previous living situation did not allow for many large gatherings. Jacobs tells KVOE News over the past two years her home has become somewhat of a “safe space” for friends and neighbors.
As in year’s past, the concert featured a wide and pleasant selection of musical arrangements.
Along with the singing and personal testimonials a raffle drawing was held for a new Traeger Grill. All proceeds from the concert will go towards Habitat’s next house build, which Janzen says will be taking place at
Janzen adds funds will also be put towards several smaller community projects, such as home rehabilitation, down the road. For more information on Habitat for Humanity visit their website at www.Emporiahabitat.org.
