Emporia State University is hosting its 45th annual Art Therapy Discovery Day on campus this Saturday.
According to organizer Gaelynn Wolf Bordonaro, Emporia State’s art therapy graduate program is the oldest program.in the country. It’s also the only program that provides dual credit mastery in multiple fields.
Saturday’s event is also an opportunity for students that are interested in the career to get a taste of what art therapy is like. It will start with registration and a light breakfast with a silent auction followed by a guest speaker panel. Workshops take place before and after lunch along with a faculty Q&A.
Melissa Walker, the Healing Arts Program Coordinator for the National Intrepid Center of Excellence, will be the keynote speaker. Her talk will involve art therapy treatment for veterans.
The Discovery Day goes from 8 am to 4:30 pm at the Emporia State Memorial Union. People can register online, over the phone or at the door.
