The March monthly Board of Education meeting for Northern Lyon County saw a huge crowd and discussed several key items.
The lengthy meeting had a lot to go over, none more important than the decision on the fate of the school building in Reading. The building has been vacant for some time now, and Reading city officials encourage the board to sell the building so they will be no longer liable for its upkeep. The board voted to table the discussion until the April meeting and Superintendent Mike Mathes explains the decision.
Another item that was presented to the board was an update on the newly implemented Gemini School Redesign Program, and Mathes provides an overview for this program.
Mathes and the board are in full support of the Gemini Program and are excited to see the progress and results from the students.
Recognition was also awarded at the meeting to several groups and individuals for different achievements. The Northern Heights High School girls basketball the Northern Lyon County Middle School scholar’s bowl were both league champions, and two awards were given to students with outstanding character.
The next USD 251 Board of Education meeting will be on April 10th starting at 7:00 pm at the district office in Americus.
