USD 389 Eureka has to take a new approach for replacing its junior-senior high school activity center.
Voters on Tuesday night rejected a $7.5 million bond issue for that project. The vote was 566 against the measure and 535 for it, or 54-46 percent against.
The vote reversed the initial results in January. Nearly 800 votes were cast, with almost 59 percent favoring the bond issue. The bond was brought before voters last year after the prior activity center was destroyed in the EF-3 tornado that struck the city last June.
The re-vote was needed after the original legal notice was incorrect, voiding all results. Two legal notices are needed before an election in cases like this, but only one was published. The bond company says it forwarded the notices to the Greenwood County Clerk’s Office, but only one was received.
