Alzheimer’s will be the main focus of an upcoming forum in Emporia Tuesday evening.
An Alzheimer’s Community Forum is taking place at First United Methodist Church and will discuss multiple topics dealing with Alzheimer’s and cognitive disorders. Event spokesperson Paula Sauder says individuals from the Alzheimer’s Association in Kansas City will also be in attendance to serve as facilitators for the forum.
Sauder explains a major issue with any cognitive disease is the way it can cause patients and their families to feel alone in their struggle. She says this is where forums such as Tuesday’s play a big factor.
Sauder adds the forum is a great conversation starter as Alzheimer’s and other cognitive impairments are typically not discussed by families until a loved one is already affected. Sauder says the forum will help to spread the word of resources available from the Alzheimer’s Association as well as local organizations capable of offering assistance to families and patients.
The forum is open to the public and will begin at 6 pm at First United Methodist Church in Emporia. Sauder says those wishing to attend may RSVP but it is not necessary.
