A handful of Lyon County roads remain closed after flooding rainfall last week.

Road M from Road 220 to Road 240 is open. However, there are still some barricades still up.
The flooding from last week is just the latest delay for the Lyon County Highway Department as road crews try to get gravel roads back in shape from flooding last fall. County Engineer Chip Woods tells KVOE News the combination of rain, ice and snow over the past several months has torn up a lot of roads.
Heavy rain from August into early October caused widespread flooding and numerous road closures across Lyon County, although the estimated damage total wasn’t enough for the county to get reimbursement aid from the federal government. Road crews have also been out regularly this winter clearing roads after close to 25 inches of snow and now almost 7 inches of rain, including over 1.5 inches of rain last week. All this pushes back the estimated timetable for road repairs — if we don’t get any more significant weather for the next few months.
Many affected roads need their crowns replaced, and there could be other structural damage as well.
