A week of activities will center on helping and honoring local student veterans at Emporia State University.
ESU and the ESU Student Veterans Association are teaming up for the inaugural Veterans Week beginning Monday. The week of activities will center on educating and engaging local veterans through a variety of activities including a town hall meeting at 6:30 Monday evening in Albert Taylor Hall.
The town hall will involve several local veterans associations including the VFW, American Legion and disability services. Student Veterans Association President Michael White says the town hall is a great opportunity for local veterans and follows the recent announcement regarding the impending closure of the Emporia VA outpatient clinic.
The town hall is not connected to another town hall involving US Senator Jerry Moran at the end of the month. Plans for the Moran town hall are still pending.
The Student Veteran’s Association currently has 20 active members according to White. All activities are open to local veterans and the general public.
Other activities in the coming week will include a poetry reading, a discussion on the aftermath of suicide and a women’s veteran panel. Everything will wrap up with a fundraiser party at the Copper Top on Friday evening.
