The Emporia State baseball team won the first game of a 3 game series with Fort Hays State 9-3 Sunday afternoon.
The Hornets scored 2 runs in the top of the 1st. They added 2 runs in the 4th, single runs in the 6th and 8th innings. In the 9th inning they added 3 more runs. Connor Hurst was 2 for 3 with 2 runs scored and 2 RBI.
Jake Barton was the winning pitcher, going 7 innings giving up 1 run on 3 hits with 2 walks and 5 strikeouts.
The Hornets and Tigers play a doubleheader Monday with game 1 set to begin at 12:00pm at Glennen Field at the Trusler Sports Complex.
