The woman who pleaded no contest to driving a stolen boat — and leading a law enforcement chase in the process — last fall was sentenced Wednesday in Lyon County District Court.
32-year-old Crista Hinostroza was sentenced to 23 months probation with an 18 month underlying prison term, meaning if she violates her probation in any way she will go to prison. Hinostroza pleaded in January to a single count of felony theft with the value ranging from $25,000 to $100,000.
Hinostroza was originally charged with theft of property or services ranging from $25,000 to $100,000 and flee and elude, or an alternate count of interference with law enforcement, after an incident in late October.
Emporia Police officers say the boat and trailer theft happened in the 1100 block of Neosho. They also say chase speeds were mainly between 30-40 mph but occasionally got to 60 mph before Hinostroza was stopped in the 1500 block of East Logan.
Remaining charges were dropped as part of the plea agreement.
