The Emporia City Commission breezed through multiple items during their action session Wednesday.
Two bids were submitted for approval during the meeting, the first sought to approve a bid from Star Construction in the amount of $64,420 for the city hazardous sidewalk program. The program allows the city to repair sidewalks which are not owned by the city itself.
This works through a partnership between the landowners and the city and splits the cost 50-50. Sidewalks are identified either by the landowner applying for the program, or the city itself flagging the sidewalk for improvements.
The program is budgeted for each year. This year the program has an operating budget of $100,000.
The second bid was from John North Ford for the purchase of three new Hybrid Ford Interceptor SUV’s for the Emporia Police Department. Total cost of the purchase is just over $111,900.
The list price of the vehicles is roughly $3,200 more than the typical gas-powered engine vehicles purchased in year’s past. Commissioners plan to track the vehicles while in use as they believe, while a bit pricier, the hybrids will essentially offset the price difference in terms of fuel savings.
Both bids were approved unanimously.
Also during the meeting, the commission approved the annual season agreement with the Emporia Recreation Commission for operation of the Jone’s Aquatic Center for 2019. The Emporia City Commission will next meet Wednesday, March 13 inside of city conference room 1AB at White Auditorium.
