Joyous sounds and a rich Welsh culture filled the halls of the Emporia Presbyterian Church for the annual St. David’s Day Concert.
St. David is the patron saint of the nation of Wales, and the local community was once heavily settled by Welsh immigrants.
The concert began with the singing of both the United States national anthem as well as the national anthem of Wales. Following this prelude was a series of Welsh hymns sung by a dedicated choir and led by guest conductor, Eluned Jones.
The sanctuary of the church rang with the tunes of these hymns. The beautiful voices echo their Welsh roots.
Concluding the concert was a closing hymn titled “God Be With You Till We Meet Again” and the audience was invited to join the choir in song. Tea and bara brith bread, two traditional Welsh refreshments, were served when the St. David’s Day Concert reached its end.
