The Emporia State basketball teams closed out the regular season Saturday at Central Oklahoma. The Lady Hornets were out scored by Central 78-62. The men out scored Central 100-95.
The Emporia State women scored the games first 2 points on a basket by Tyra Jones. Central Oklahoma would make 6 straight 3s during a 18-0 run and never looked back. Emporia State Coach Toby Wynn said they did not play up to expectations.
Kali Martin was the leading scorer for Emporia State with 17 points. Addie Lackey finished with 11 points. The Lady Hornets were out scored 30-6 in the paint and out rebounded by 9. They are now 22-7 and finished 13-6 in the MIAA. They are the 5th seed in the MIAA tournament and will play Washburn Friday at 6pm.
In the mens game Kooper Glick scored a career high 35 points to led the Hornets to the 100-95 win.
Julius Jackson added 29 points. The Hornets made 13 threes and were 19-19 from the free throw line. Coach Craig Doty said that was a big difference.
Central Oklahoma was led by Adarius Avery with 37 points and 11 rebounds. The Hornets trailed 51-46 at halftime but would out score Central 54-44 in the 2nd half. The Emporia State men are now 13-15 for the season and 8-11 in the MIAA. They will play Northeastern State Wednesday at noon in the first round of the MIAA tournament.
