An evidentiary hearing is now on the docket as a drug conviction appeal continues in Lyon County District Court.
Dave Wasylk is in his latest round of appeals after his conviction in August 2013 for aiding and abetting the manufacture of methamphetamine. Wasylk says he received ineffective counsel during his court proceedings and related trial. His next hearing is Aug. 19.
Wasylk was convicted, along with Wes Gohring and Michelle Hernandez-Correa, after alleged meth activity at 1101 Union and the 2200 block of Road H-5. Gohring received 15 years for meth manufacture. Hernandez-Correa received 20 months probation.
Wasylk’s appellate process has already gone to the Kansas Supreme Court, which affirmed his sentence in 2015, and the United States Supreme Court, which denied his appeal two years ago.
Before his conviction, Wasylk operated Emporia’s Dugout Bar and Grill for several years. He also coached the Hartford football team and served as a physical education teacher, football coach and track coach at several schools, including Reading and Hartford.
