The Salvation Army of Emporia still needs a lot of food to meet the ongoing community need.
During KVOE’s Morning Show this week, Capt. Deb Thompson said “things are still low.”
Current needs include cereals, breakfast bars, canned fruits and vegetables, cooking items and condiments.
Thompson says the need really developed early this month with around 120 families a month needing services. People can help by dropping off supplies at the Salvation Army office, 327 Constitution.
Meanwhile, the Salvation Army is getting ready for its latest commodity distribution. This event is coming Thursday and will feature applesauce, spaghetti sauce, long-grain rice, frozen blueberries, pinto beans, beef stew, cheese and other items. Residents need to meet federal poverty guidelines first. They also need to bring documentation of gross monthly income and their own bags or boxes.
The commodity distribution will be from 9:30-11:30 am and from 1:30-3:30 pm. For more information, call 342-3093 or stop by the office.
