Emporia State University has announced an interim dean for its Teachers College.
Dr. Joan Brewer, currently the college’s associate dean, will lead the department for a year, according to Provost Dr. David Cordle. Brewer will serve as a bridge between retiring Dean Dr. Ken Weaver and a new department leader.
Brewer became associate Teachers College dean in 2012, leading functions like curriculum and accreditation. Previously, she was chair of Emporia State’s Department of Health, Physical Education and Recreation.
Weaver is retiring in June and made his announcement last summer. In a letter to university students and staff, Cordle said ESU began a search for Weaver’s replacement last fall. That search led to two finalists, but Cordle said neither were “exactly what we were looking for.”
ESU plans to launch a new search in the fall 2019 semester.
