The Emporia High boys basketball team ended a 5 game losing skid with a 62-45 win over Manhattan Thursday. Manhattan won the girls game 34-23.
The Emporia High boys used a 22-13 4th quarter run to turn a close game to a 17 point win. The Spartans led 23-17 after the first quarter, 33-29 at halftime and led 40-32 going to the 4th quarter. Emporia High coach Beau Welch said they played with confidence.
Beau Baumgardner led the Spartan offense with a game high 21 points as he hit 6 three point shots. Jace Stewart finished with 16 points and Kyler McCullough added 12 points.
In the girls game Manhattan used a 10-0 run in the 3rd quarter to take control of the game. Emporia High trailed 7-6 after the first quarter. At halftime the Lady Spartans trailed 17-12. The 3rd quarter run was the difference for Manhattan. Emporia High coach Carolyn Dorsey was pleased with the play in the first half.
Emporia High was led in scoring by Mya Chapman with 8 points.
The Emporia High basketball teams close out the regular season Friday at home against Junction City.
