The Jones Aquatic Center may have some new equipment to use if the Emporia Recreation Commission offers its approval, perhaps as early as next month.
Same goes for the Lee Beran Recreation Center.
The Rec Commission board is considering an early proposal to buy as much as $33,000 worth of new equipment through Wibit — pronounced WIB-bit — which is a subsidiary of Recreonics. Director Tom McEvoy says this would be a substantial upgrade from the other pool toys recently in circulation.
McEvoy says the next month will be spent going through the different equipment options and determining what may be best locally. Wibit provides steps, slides, bridges, aquatic monkey bars and other equipment. Products are made largely of PVC pipe material and carry a 3-year warranty, according to information provided by the Rec Commission.
If approved, this would be the first new equipment for the Aquatic Center since it opened to the public in 2001.
The next board meeting is March 18.
