Due to a number of different reasons, gasoline prices have been on a gradual incline in Kansas.
Gas prices in the local area have risen $0.09 per gallon in the past week, making the Kansas average $2.09 per gallon and Emporia’s average $2.11 per gallon.
A number of reasons have led to this jump at the pumps. Geopolitical sanctions on Venezuela and Iran have limited the supply to crude oil. Crude oil itself is seeing a rise in value due to a tightening supply. Shawn Steward of Kansas AAA talks about another reason affecting the prices – demand.
Other states like California and Hawaii are seeing prices as high as $3.28 per gallon. Steward explains that Kansas is looking good on the national scale.
In perspective, Kansas has great gas prices, but unfortunately, they will continue to climb with spring around the corner. Better weather usually means an increase in traveling, leading to higher demand. Determining how supply will affect prices is more difficult.
