Light to occasionally moderate snowfall is expected through the rest of the day across the KVOE listening area.
Snow began around 8 am in Emporia and started sticking to roads about an hour later. TV-13 meteorologist Doug Meyers says we’ll get a dry, powdery snowfall through the day.
With that forecast, County Engineer Chip Woods says his crews will likely have to both treat roads with salt and sand and blade them off as well.
Intersections and residential streets are getting slick in Emporia. Crews are out at this time.

Up to 3 inches of snow is now expected in Emporia, with possibly higher totals to our northeast. To our south and west, Chase and Greenwood county residents could be dealing with 1-3 inches of a snow-freezing drizzle mix through the day, with any freezing drizzle set to develop by late afternoon.

5 am Friday: Light to moderate snow poised to impact area Friday
Light to moderate snowfall is likely for the KVOE listening area Friday.
TV-13 meteorologist Doug Meyers says snowfall should last almost all day.
Up to 3 inches of snow are expected in Emporia, with higher totals to our northeast. To our south and west, Chase and Greenwood county residents could be dealing with 1-3 inches of a snow-freezing drizzle mix through the day, with any freezing drizzle set to develop by late afternoon.
Winter weather advisories are currently underway until 6 pm areawide.
City and county crews will be on standby. According to Lyon County Engineer Chip Woods, county crews are freshly stocked up on treatment materials after the recent brush of wintry precipitation that impacted the area. He also tells KVOE News the combination of powdery snow and winds up to 20 mph will make it challenging to keep all county roads open.
City Street Supervisor Mike Dvorak tells KVOE News they are also good on treatment materials, however, if the winter weather persists getting salt may become a bit tougher.
