The Emporia State womens basketball team extended their winning streak to 7 in a row and punched their ticket to the MIAA tournament with a 71-64 win over Central Oklahoma Thursday.
It was a slow start for the Lady Hornets trailing 16-14 after the first quarter. The Lady Hornets took the lead for good in the 2nd quarter and held a 35-30 lead at halftime. They started the 3rd quarter with a 12-2 run and would hold a 18 point lead. Central Oklahoma made a run in the 4th quarter and cut Emporia States lead to 6 points with just over 3 minutes to play. Emporia State Coach Toby Wynn called it a grinder.
Emily Miller powered the Lady Hornets scoring a game high 23 points, 17 were scored in the first half.
Kali Martin and Jessica Wayne each scored 12 points. The Lady Hornets are now 19-5 for the season and 10-4 in the MIAA. The will host Northeastern State Saturday.
