A recent hunting trip for Wichita attorney and potential US Senate candidate James Thompson had a speed bump — or, in his case, a notable traffic stop — late last month.
Thompson was pulled over for speeding in Greenwood County on Jan. 27. Because his driver’s license was suspended at the time, he was also arrested briefly.
The Wichita Eagle says Thompson was ticketed for going 56 mph in a 40-mph zone Nov. 15 in Wichita. The license was suspended last month. Thompson says he has paid his Sedgwick County fine and had his license reinstated as a result. He’s set to appear in Greenwood County District Court later this month.
Thompson, a Democrat, hasn’t formally announced a Senate bid to possibly replace retiring Senator Pat Roberts, although he says he’s considering it. Thompson narrowly lost to Republican Ron Estes in a special election for the US Congress Fourth District seat in 2017. He also lost to Estes for the same seat last year.
