Lyon County Commissioners were updated on local health efforts during their weekly action session Thursday morning.
Representatives of Flint Hills Community Health Center were in attendance to present their quarterly report on contracted services through the county. This includes services conducted by the Environmental Health and Public Health Services departments.
According to the report, Environmental Health dealt with several cases of potential rabies exposures, 34 to be exact. Another issue they are facing according to Community Health Services Director Jennifer Millbern is bed bugs.
According to Millbern, locally and nationally there has been a spike recently in reported bed bug cases.
The report also reflects the Emergency Preparedness Department conducted 53 cycle inspections for lagoons and septic systems, 8 real estate transfer inspections and four miscellaneous inspections and completed inspections of all Lyon County schools for 2018.
In terms of community and outreach nurse Melissa Smith reports FHCHC conducted 15 separate outside health clinics and administered over 500 immunizations during those clinics. Smith explains those numbers are virtually identical to years past.
According to FHCHC Executive Director Renee Hively the Health Center finished the year with an excess of $206.90 for contracted services.
In other business Commissioners also approved the vacation of numerous county roads, approved the payment for the ATT call handling package through KS 911 and the annual contract with Scheller’s Inc.
The Lyon County Commission will next meet Thursday, Feb. 14 at 8 am inside the Lyon County Courthouse.
