Emporia State’s Theatre Department attended the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival 51 (KCACTF) in Sioux Falls, SD and several students found success.
The KCACTF hosted over 1500 academics from seven of the surrounding states. Director of Theatre at ESU, Jim Bartruff took the students to participate. Several students went home with different accomplishments. Bartruff talks about how the festival went.
Hewleek McKoy, who Bartruff is talking about, received the honor of attending the Open Jar Institute in New York City. The Institute is a week-long intensive training program where he will work with Broadway actors. McKoy goes over the selection process and his reaction to the news.
McKoy is asking for donations to help fund some of the expenses for the program. A GoFundMe has been set up under Hewleek McKoy’s name.
ESU’s Theatre Department has many other activities and shows coming up. To view a list of them, visit their website at https://www.emporia.edu/theatre/news-events/theatre-season.html.
