Lyon County has its representative for the Scripps Regional Spelling Bee later this year.
Emporia Middle School Student Ethan Rhudy emerged victorious after 18 rounds of spelling in the Lyon County Spelling Bee Tuesday as heard on KVOE and seen on KVOE-TV at KVOE.com. Rhudy correctly spelled the final word:
Carol Garate was second in the event held at Emporia’s Humanitarian Center. Garate explains her approach to each word in the competition.
Mia Kingsley of Olpe Junior High placed third. Maddox Misak of Emporia Christian School was fourth.
Rhudy will now head to the Scripps Regional Spelling Bee in Wichita on March 9th. If he should win the regional they will then head to the National Spelling Bee in National Harbor, Maryland in May.
