USD 284 Chase County has chosen a new Superintendent.
Glenna Grinstead, a product of the Chase County School District, has been chosen to replace current Superintendent Jeff Kohlman who announced he will be retiring after leading the school district for seven years. After graduating from high school Grinstead attended Northwest Oklahoma State University where she earned her bachelor’s degree before moving on to Fort Hays State University and eventually Texas Weslyann where she gained her master’s degree in education.
Grinstead has spent the past 17 years at USD 401 Chase-Raymond in Chase KS, where she has spent the past three years as Superintendent. She says a major factor which drew her to Chase County was the pride shown by both faculty and students.
Grinstead says student input is a major asset for her as Superintendent as she would not have a job with a student body to serve. She adds, coming from a school district where she currently serves between 150-160 students to Chase County which currently has close to 350 students will be a big change.
Another challenge she is expecting is coming on board the district while in the midst of a $12 million renovation process which is currently $600,000 over budget due to a series of change orders.
The USD 284 School Board is set to approve Grinstead’s hire during their Feb. 13 board meeting.
