A bill has been introduced that would let undocumented immigrants apply for driver’s licenses if approved by the Legislature and signed by Governor Laura Kelly.
House Bill 2003 would require undocumented immigrants to have proof of insurance and a valid passport. Immigrants would also have to pass a driving test and a vision test before receiving a license.
The bill as currently written says the state cannot use any of the previously mentioned information to deport somebody. Also, the Department of Motor Vehicles could not be forced to release its information unless mandated by a court order.
