The results are in and USD 389 Eureka will have a new activity center for Eureka Junior-Senior High School.
The $7.5 million bond measure was approved by Eureka residents during a special election held Wednesday. The unofficial result was 466 votes or 58.47 percent for yes and 331 votes or 41.53 percent for no.
The bond measure came about after the previous activity center was destroyed in the EF-3 tornado which struck Eureka last June. With the approval a new building will now be constructed and will contain two basketball courts, an activity center, restrooms and locker rooms.
According to the district, bonds will be financed over 20 years and will have no impact to the district’s mil levy as the district is currently paying off another improvement bond.
The bond does not address possible renovations McGinnis Field, the football field which also suffered damage during last June’s tornado. Those will use capital outlay and and insurance reimbursement funds.
Construction on the new facility is scheduled to begin in March with completion anticipated by November.
