Depression and anxiety in teens have become a rising problem lately, but CrossWinds and Communities in Schools are offering services at Emporia schools to combat the issue.
An informational session on depression and anxiety on teens was held on Wednesday in the EHS library for parents and students to learn more about the subject and how they can help themselves or their children.
Arijana Cook is a caseworker for CrossWinds at EHS. Cook talks about why it’s hard for students to come forward about their struggles and how to overcome them.
Some of these signs and symptoms include:
Self-seclusion, sleeping in more or less, not enjoying things they once did, not eating as much, and so forth.
Cook explains what resources are available to help battle depression and anxiety through CrossWinds.
If you or someone you know could use CrossWinds services, visit their Lyon County office at 1000 Lincoln St. in Emporia. You can also call them at (620) 343-2211 during operation hours or call their emergency line at (620) 343-2626 after operation hours.
