Westar Energy is closer to its planned power outage for areas east of Emporia.
Work is slated for 12:30 to 3:30 pm Friday, and spokesperson Gina Penzig says most of the system maintenance will deal with one power line. She also acknowledges it’s rare to have a project of this nature taking place during the daylight hours.
Communities like Hartford, Neosho Rapids, Hall’s Summit, Olivet and Waverly, along with the BETO Junction truck plaza, will be affected along with nearby rural communities. Rural electric cooperatives like Lyon-Coffey will also have outages.
USD 252 Southern Lyon County and USD 243 Lebo-Waverly have already announced schedule adjustments connected to the outage. Southern Lyon County will have off-site activities Friday afternoon, while Lebo-Waverly will dismiss districtwide at noon.
