Our current cold air will be a thing of the past very soon.
In fact, TV-13 meteorologist Doug Meyers says we could have high temperatures approaching 50 degrees as soon as Friday. Part of the upcoming warmup is due to the glancing blow we received from the polar vortex that is hammering the Upper Midwest, Northern Plains and Great Lakes regions.
In the meantime, we still have a wind chill advisory for the rest of the morning. This affects Lyon, Coffey, Osage and Wabaunsee counties.
The cold temperatures prompted a range of schedule adjustments for activities Wednesday:
Schools
*USD 243 Lebo-Waverly closed
*USD 420 Osage City closed
*Osage City Preschool closed
*USD 421 Lyndon closed
*USD 434 Santa Fe Trail closed
*USD 454 Burlingame closed
*USD 456 Marais des Cygnes Valley closed
Churches
*Burlingame Federated Church activities canceled Wednesday, including Bearcat Knights
*Lebo Baptist Church’s Gen~XYZ activities canceled Wednesday.
*Lyndon United Methodist Church activities canceled and preschool closed Wednesday.
Community Services
*Lebo Community Food Pantry closed Wednesday.
One service that will continue as scheduled will be mail delivery. The Postal Service originally said it was suspending delivery operations for the Dakotas, eastern Montana, Iowa, Minnesota and “portions of east Wisconsin, Missouri, Nebraska and Kansas.” That was reversed by around 8 pm when spokesperson Stacy Hopwood told KVOE News that Emporia, the KVOE listening area and most of Kansas will have normal service Wednesday.
Temperatures will climb to the mid- and upper teens across Lyon and surrounding counties Wednesday after overnight lows near zero and wind chills anywhere from -5 to -15.
