Overbrook’s first sanctioned goose hunt was held this past weekend.
Saturday’s frigid conditions likely cut back on participants — and, possibly, on the number of birds collected. City Clerk Jim Koger says two hunters took part and harvested four geese. As many as eight hunters are allowed.
Overbrook has had a longstanding issue with geese at the City Lake and Overbrook Kid’s Fishing Pond. The town has had issues almost every year with toxic blue-green algae, and the geese are considered as a major contributing factor.
Overbrook announced the hunt plans late last year, but the town hasn’t had any luck in the weather department. The first hunt Jan. 5 was canceled because it was too warm.
Weather permitting, Overbrook will try again Feb. 2 and Feb. 16.
