Emporia’s transient guest had a significant jump from 2017 to 2018.
Convention and Visitors Bureau Director Susan Rathke announced a 20-percent spike during KVOE’s Morning Show on Tuesday. She says this is a big deal for local tourism and event promotion.
Transient guest tax revenues climbed from around $550,000 in 2017 to over $690,000 last year, and the 2017 number was ahead of the $505,000 from 2016. Rathke believes part of that is tied to an increase in residents becoming Airbnb hosts for events large and small, although a breakdown between Airbnb and traditional hotel revenue is pending.
