Westar Energy has scheduled several meetings across the state as the utility helps applicants in the Low Income Energy Assistance Program.
LIEAP, as it’s called, is a federally-funded program that helps eligible households pay some of their home energy costs by offering a one-time-a-year benefit. Westar has helped more than 3,500 households apply for LIEAP funds since 2010. However, Westar says thousands of applications are rejected every year because of avoidable errors.
A meeting in Emporia is planned for Jan. 31 from 9 am to 4 pm at the Salvation Army, 327 Constitution.
For more information about LIEAP requirements or to fill out an application, call 800-432-0043 or visit the Kansas Department for Children and Families website at www.dcf.ks.gov. Applications are being accepted through March 29.
