Slick conditions will be evident Saturday night, and they will be evident Sunday morning as well.
Road and street crews were able to make some headway to improve travel conditions after around an inch of snow in Lyon County on Friday night and early Saturday. However, conditions are still extremely slick in downtown Emporia — especially Commercial and Merchant streets — as well as a lot of intersections and residential streets.
In Lyon County, roads north of Road 300 are still listed as a sheet of ice, according to the Highway Department. Conditions improve the further south you go, but there are still occasional slick spots across the county.
Temperatures will be close to 10 degrees overnight, with wind chills close to zero — meaning certain road treatment materials used by the city are ineffective at those temperatures. Temperatures will climb to around freezing Sunday with sunshine, which will help melting and traction materials improve the travel conditions areawide.
The limited snowfall we received should be gone by Monday afternoon as temperatures climb to the low 40s. Stay with KVOE, KVOE.com and KVOE social media for updates.
