A review of programs for a local organization and an update on a longstanding improvement project highlighted the Lyon County Commission’s action session Thursday morning.
Crosswinds Counseling and Wellness CEO Amanda Cunningham presented commissioners with the organization’s year in review Thursday morning. Cunningham was happy to report in 2018 Crosswinds received three new contracts with Emporia Middle School and Emporia High School.
These contracts provide a therapist to be onsite to assist student needs. According to Cunningham, in the past therapists were provided only on a needed basis, now they are available at all times.
During her recent state of the state address Wednesday evening, Governor Laura Kelly briefly touched on the subject of mental health. Kelly believes it is a subject which requires more attention.
Cunningham says more attention from the state level is vital for the success of community health organizations.
Also highlighted in the review were Crosswind’s new drug court partnership, a new health information system contract, the first coffee with Crosswinds event and the establishment of the Coffey County Mental Health Task Force.
In other business, Bruce Boettcher with BG Consultants presented an update on the work to Rural Water District #1. According to Boettcher as of Jan. 4 all the water lines in Americus have been constructed, pressure tested and disinfected. Cleanup is anticipated to be completed by Jan. 31.
Boettcher sought approval from Commissioners for a Certificate of Substantial Completion for Goins Enterprises who handled the installation work. Boettcher also sought approval for a pay application to Phoenix Fabricators totalling $10,438.60 for work on the new water tower in the city of Bushong.
All items were approved 3-0.
Commissioners also approved a quote from Longbine Autoplaza, presented by Lyon County Engineer Chip Woods, for the purchase of two Chevrolet Silverado quarter-ton pickup trucks and an entrance application for Scott Grimmet for an entrance to Lot 3 in the Rolling Hills Subdivision in the 2100 block of Road 170.
Lyon County Controller Dan Williams presented the 2019 senior center allocations for the county which were unanimously approved.
Commissioners will next meet Thursday, Jan. 24 at 8 am inside the Lyon County Courthouse.
