Formal charges are pending after an alleged standoff near Madison late Saturday night.
Greenwood County Sheriff Heath Samuels says the incident developed after deputies responded to Casey’s in Madison and spoke to a juvenile female about a potential assault by a family member. Deputies then went to 1468 360th Road to talk with 36-year-old Jonathan Griffin of Madison.
Griffin refused to come out and speak with deputies, and instead he blocked off the house windows with blankets and towels. After several attempts to have Griffin leave the house, deputies got a search warrant and reached out to the Kansas Bureau of Investigation’s SWAT team.
The SWAT team started negotiating with Griffin and eventually used “a small amount of irritant gas” to get Griffin out of the house. Griffin was arrested and taken into custody.
Samuels says the investigation is ongoing and the amount of information is limited.
