Patchy dense fog Tuesday morning could lead to isolated slick conditions.
Dense fog advisories are up areawide until 11 am. TV-13 meteorologist Doug Meyers says elevated surfaces, notably bridges and overpasses, have the greatest risk of icing while the fog is with us.
Visibility will be a quarter-mile or less when the fog is at its thickest. If you are driving and encounter fog, slow down. Use low-beam headlights and give lots of distance between you and other drivers.
Fog has already led to one serious crash involving an Emporian in Marion County. The Kansas Highway Patrol says a semi driven by 37-year-old Jonathon Hewitt of Wichita crashed into a car driven by 67-year-old Evan Stout of Emporia at the junction of US Highway 56 and Kansas Highway 15 shortly before 8:30 pm Monday. The Highway Patrol crash log says Hewitt failed to stop at a sign due to dense fog right before the crash. Hewitt was not hurt, but Stout was taken to Wesley Medical Center in Wichita with suspected serious injuries.
The week ahead could be active, with a possible repeat of the fog and freezing fog situation Tuesday night, rain and freezing rain possible Wednesday night and a possibility of accumulating snow, blustery and cold conditions Friday night and Saturday.
