Emporia High School’s debate team took 2nd place at the 5A state debate championship in Garden City last Saturday.
The EHS debate team fell short to Lansing High School for the championship, but they did upset the top-seeded Wichita Kapaun-Mt Carmel Catholic School in the quarterfinal round. EHS debate coach Scott Bonnet talks about the state tournament.
With this 2nd place finish, the team qualifies for the National Debate Coaches Association Championship Tournament. EHS debaters Lena Mose and Kathryn Rosa have put in much effort to advance to nationals, and it has paid off.
EHS has been known to have a successful debate program in previous years, as Coach Bonnet explains.
Both Mose and Rosa will advance to the NDCA National Championship at Glenbrook South High School in Glenview, Illinois from April 13th – 15th.
