State Treasurer Jake LaTurner has announced a run for US Senate.
LaTurner was sworn in to replace Ron Estes as Treasurer in April 2017 after two terms in the Kansas Senate. He won the seat for his first full term this past November.
LaTurner, 31, becomes the first announced candidate for Pat Roberts’ Senate seat after the longtime lawmaker announced his retirement last week. Other prominent Republicans, including former Governor Jeff Colyer, current Kansas Attorney General Derek Schmidt and current First District Congressman Roger Marshall, have all expressed interest in the seat.
Former US Attorney for Kansas Barry Grissom, a Democrat, has also expressed interest in the post.
