A Lyon County man arrested last year for allegedly firing two guns while walking along Kansas Highway 99 near Emporia faces sentencing Wednesday on a related charge.
Eric Ryan Hooper, age 38 of Emporia, will be sentenced for one count of battery on a law enforcement officer after pleading no contest to that charge in October. Hooper was originally charged with one count of criminal discharge of a firearm on a public road or right-of-way, but that count was dismissed as part of his plea last fall.
Hooper was arrested in early August after allegedly firing both a rifle and handgun on the highway. Court documents indicate that Lyon County deputies found the guns and spent casings nearby when they found Hooper, who said he fired a gun to get somebody’s attention to help him for unspecified reasons. Hooper also allegedly tried to pull away from deputies and allegedly bit one before he was arrested.
Sentencing will be at 11 am in Lyon County District Court.
