Governor-elect Laura Kelly is set to take office next week. If she decides for a re-election bid in 2022, she won’t have to worry about teenaged challengers.
Last year, lawmakers approved an elections law change, enacting a minimum age of 25 for running for several state offices, including governor, lieutenant governor, secretary of state, attorney general, treasurer and insurance commissioner. Attorney general candidates also need to have a Kansas law license.
Several teenagers, including some with no apparent connection to Kansas, made unsuccessful bids for governor last year.
