Roberts, 82, has spent better than 40 years involved in politics. He was first elected to the US House in 1980 and served in the House until moving to the Senate in 1996.
This sets the stage for a possible battle royale for Roberts’ seat. Several prominent Republicans could run, including current Congressman Roger Marshall, former Congressman Kevin Yoder, current State Attorney General Derek Schmidt and former Secretary of State Kris Kobach. One Democrat, former US Attorney for Kansas Barry Grissom, has also expressed interest in the seat.
