Very soon, the Kansas Turnpike Authority will have bridge work begin in Chase County.
The KTA announced bridges will be re-decked and widened between mile markers 99 and 100, or just north of the Matfield Green service area and 26 to 27 miles southwest of the Emporia gate. This is part of a project that will also have deck milling and overlay take place on Butler County bridges at milepost 94.
The KTA says A.M. Cohron and Sons of Atlantic, Ia., won the bid with an estimated $4.82 million price tag. Construction could begin as soon as Jan. 7 and last until December 2019.
This dovetails with a two-year project to repair bridges northeast of Emporia. Ten bridges between Emporia and the Emporia service exit were repaired this year. More work is set to continue in northern Lyon and southern Osage counties next year.
