Families taking advantage of the Dolly Parton Imagination Library through the United Way of the Flint Hills can continue receiving free books, thanks to recent action by the United Way’s Board of Directors.
Last week, the board announced the book program will remain in place through 2023, thanks to the generosity of the public and several foundations. United Way Director Jami Reever says the goal of the program is simple.
The program costs about $40,000 per year, so the United Way gained donations from several major foundations. The Jones Trust donated $50,000, while the Trusler Foundation and Capitol Federal Foundation both donated $30,000. The Preston Family Trust added $25,000.
All children from birth to age 5 living in Lyon, Chase, Coffey, Morris, Osage and Woodson counties are eligible to receive a free book once a month until they age out of the program.
